Radio/Internet Revenue Update…

The radio vs. Internet revenue race is the tortoise against the hare. No need to explain which is which. A new report shows Internet advertising with a gain of 26% from 2006 to 2007. A record high of $21.2 billion was reported by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Their reports show online ads passing radio’s $19.8 billion in 2007 revenue. Meanwhile the Radio Advertising Bureau reported that radio brought in $21.3 billion in 2007…
Online ad revenues were $5.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007, up 24% from the fourth quarter of ‘06. Consumer advertisers were the top category online and the ads were in all configurations - banners, sponsorships, rich media and digital video ads. Simply put, the Internet revenue business is diverse and more importantly, booming…
There could be a bit of good news on the radio revenue side in April if the CL King & Associates preliminary estimate is correct. They report that April’s revenue decline will be 1 to 3% when the RAB releases its figures. That would follow an 8% decline in March, much better than expected…
Such is the state of radio today when a smaller decrease than expected amounts to a victory…

The Rutgers University radio station, WRSU (88.7 FM) commemorates its 60th anniversary tomorrow with their annual alumni broadcast. WRSU signed on at 680 AM on April 26, 1948 on closed circuit. Their signal can now be heard 15-20 miles in the area surrounding New Brunswick (NJ), the campus home of Rutgers. Congratulations to Scarlet Knight alum everywhere…Tomorrow is “Flag Day” so if you’ve got one, fly it proudly. If not, buy one…
