The Chess Brothers discovered Bo Diddley playing on street corners in Chicago’s South Side and signed him to their label in the 50s. Born Elias Bates McDaniel in Mississippi, Bo got his nickname from elementary school classmates in Chicago. Bo Diddley’s famous “shave and a haircut” beat made him an act you couldn’t sit still to. He had his man Jerome playing the maracas on stage beside him and the incessant heavy beat of the drums and there was always the square guitar - his trademark. Bo Diddley made the early days of Rock and Roll about as much fun as any act in the 50s. Bo Do died yesterday at 79 from heart failure…When Harvey Korman passed away last Thursday at 81 from complications of a rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a piece of television history died with him. There was no funnier show in the 60s than “The Carol Burnett Show” and Harvey was one of the main reasons why. Along with his buddy Tim Conway, he made us laugh with every skit of every show.
