CBS Radio Leads in Online Ratings…

The comScore Arbitron Online Radio Ratings for June shows CBS Radio on top, followed by LAUNCHcast Radio (Yahoo streaming).  CBS pulled an AQH (average quarter hour) audience of 206,600 persons with a cume of 1,904,100 and a TSL (time spent listening) of 13 hours and 40 minutes.  LAUNCHcast had an AQH of 115,000, a cume of 1,193,300 and TSL of 12 hours and 12 minutes.  These results compliments of Radio & Records.  While online ratings are still not an exact measurement science comScore Arbitron seems to be leading the pack in taking the online radio pulse.  Who are they and where did they come from???

In November of 2004 Arbitron and comScore Media Metrix debuted a new service designed to provide traditional broadcast ratings for the online radio industry.  America Online’s AOL Radio Network, Yahoo!’s LAUNCHcast and Microsoft’s MSN Radio and Windowsmedia.com signed on as charter subscribers for the new service.  comScore Arbitron uses a sizable sample size of 200,000 U.S. participants “within the comScore global comsumer panel.  Using proprietary and patent-pending technology, comScore passively and continuously captures the online behavior of these panelists, including online radio listening behavior. Customers are provided with AQH and Cume estimates for traditional broadcast dayparts and demographics.”  The data is provided monthly…

The obvious questions arise, like how reliable is this service?  Is anyone using this for sales purposes?  Who knows?  The jury is still out.  One thing this service does provide is a sizable sample base and an online measurement service that’s probably better than anything else out there…
