Sanyo has one-upped HD Radio with a stand-alone unit that combines FM and Internet radio signals. Top that, HD Radio! The Sanyo R227 also has an ethernet jack for use with a computer. It’s a clock radio if you choose to put it beside your bed. It won’t toast your bread or brew your coffee but can be used in the kitchen or any other room. It even comes with a remote with which you can tune up to several thousand Internet radio stations - 2,163 in the U.S. alone and your favorite FM stations…
The Sanyo R277 will be available in the U.S. this month. Online retailers taking pre-orders have priced it at about $150. As with everything else this radio has some drawbacks. It doesn’t have AM radio, it looks like a medic alert call box and reviews have rated sound quality so-so but Sanyo is on the right path in combining terrestrial and Internet radio…
I hope Sanyo, now owned by Panasonic, or some other manufacturer can come up with a stereo tuner that combines the Internet with AM and FM radio and price it reasonably. Now that would be an attractive radio…
