WOR Radio Starts Socializing…
Friday, October, 2, 2009 by Mel Phillips.
I’ve always been a big fan of Rick Buckley who owns one of the most successful family-run radio groups in this or any country. Rick loved working for RKO Radio so much, he bought one of their stations in 1987 – WOR-AM in New York. Rick’s flagship News/Talk 50,000 watt, Class A, nighttime clear-channel station has one of the strongest lineups of any long-standing station in America: Glenn Beck, Joy Browne, The Dolans, Lou Dobbs, Arthur Frommer, John R. Gambling, Michael Savage, Michael Smerconish, Joan Hamburg, Steve Malzberg and any station with Joey Reynolds can’t be all bad - a joke, Joey. That solid lineup has just been enhanced by the ‘NA710N’ Social Network, “a new online community that lets listeners interact with each other as well as hosts and station yakkers through discussions, live chats both on and off the air.” I hope they use a delay for Glenn Beck’s “chats”…
WOR VP/GM Jerry Crowley says “WOR has long been an innovator of providing great Talk radio and we are excited to offer our listeners this great new way to connect with us and each other.” The new site’s name was chosen from a listener contest…
I tried WOR’s new ‘NA710N‘ Social Network website and it’s up now. Much like the station itself, it’s clean, no frills and easy to use and although WOR leans right, their website is straightforward. It’s a Rick Buckley composite of Twitter and Facebook for WOR listeners. Welcome to the age of socialization…
