2010 Census = Dollars & Cents For Minority Radio…

Minority owned and operated radio stations and other media will reap the benefits of some $145 million allocated by the government to encourage different ethnic groups to stand up and be counted when the Census Bureau starts counting heads in 2010. Media organizations like Univision, Telemundo and others will share the booty which will be dispensed to reach Hispanic, Black, Asian-American and other multicultural audiences. While media source breakdowns haven’t been made public, radio should get its fair share. Radio will have 36 different spots in 12 languages available. TV commercials will offer 8 different languages and print ads will be done in 13 languages. Talk about a multi-cultural America — we live in a global society in our own country…

The ethnic breakdown of advertising money being allocated for head counting is led by Hispanic media which will receive $25 - $30 million followed by Black media (20 - 25), Asian - American (15 - 20) and other (10 - 15)…

The Census Bureau will start tracking down the hard-to-count groups starting in January. The crucial phase of the census will be the door-to-door campaign when the government attempts to reach the non-responders who ignore the census questionnaire and follow-up mailings. Now here’s a job for those altruistic souls looking for one, providing of course you can speak 12 or 13 languages. Any takers???
